Hangtime Hostel is located opposite Sri Lanka’s best learn to surf beach. A huge stretch of beach with small peaks scattered up and down, there is always a wave to catch. We offer a great range of surfboards to hire. Take a big 9-Foot soft board for your first surf and you will be standing in no time. For the experienced surfers, we have the best quality shortboard range including JS and DHD at an affordable price. There is always an experienced surfer around Hangtime, so ask for some tips!

Hangtime offers two types of accommodation – double rooms and dorm rooms
Double Rooms
The double rooms are on the ground floor of the building, overlooking the landscaped front garden with views of the ocean. Each room has a private balcony with a sun chair, a hammock chair and passionfruit vines. The big surprise comes when you open the door to your room. Your bed is actually inside an old fishing boat. Hangtime found 4 boats from around Sri Lanka and transported them by a combination of truck and tractor. All being ex-fishing boats, they have been cleaned and restored by a local carpenter, who has made a bed frame which the unsymmetrically made mattress sits in.

Air Conditioning (optional) /All rooms have the option of air conditioning, they all have mosquito nets, international powerpoints with USB points, lockable cupboards and private bathrooms with hot water. They are finished with 2 Sri Lankan paintings and a wall mural by local artist Vishmika. Each room is different as no two artworks or boats are the same. You certainly feel like you are in Sri Lanka when in the room, however with that extra comfiness!

Dorm Rooms
Level 1 comprises of one 4-bed female dorm and three 6-bed mixed dorms. All rooms have private bathrooms with hot water. The beds are suspended from the ceiling by recycled fishing rope and use cantilever technology. We have now two 6-bed mixed dorms to have Air conditioning to accomodate all types of travellers.
Each dorm bed includes:
- a double bed sized mattress
- individual mosquito nets
- individual reading lights
- individual international powerpoint with USB plugs
- corresponding locker in the room
On the front balcony you get a great view of the waves, so you can wake up early and check the surf. There are 8 hammock chairs on the communal balcony which is a great spot to have an afternoon beer and watch the sunset or just read a book and relax.
